September
School has begun. September is behind us and as you can see I did not get a chance to write at all. If you are a teacher you understand the overwhelming and tiring feeling of September. To be honest I never knew how exhasuting September could be until I also had kids to take care of get to school/daycare too. September in kindergarten is just different. Some students come in excited and others come in ready to run back home to their parents. Some can write their name and some can’t hold a pencil. Somehow we navigate through it all. Then we have to do screenings and assessments to get all that remarkable data and baseline scores, all while you are trying to teach them to sit at the carpet nicely so you can talk for two minutes with no interuptions. It truly is an impossible task, but it gets better every day. Here we are in October and I don’t dread our mornings anymore. The kids are learning to unpack their folders and get their activities for the morning so I can do attendance and get our day started.
Now, let’s talk about the pain of being a mama is in September. After a couple months being home, snuggling your kids, making them breakfasts and staying on top of all the household chores you are thrown into the chaos of rushing out the door by 7:30 and making sure lunches are packed and everyone has what they need for the day. Then emotionally you are heartbroken that you can’t be with your little one anymore and rely on someone else to take care of them for the majority of the week. This part breaks me, but I know my son is being very well taken care of. My heart just hurts that it can’t be me. Then just like that you are counting down the days to every weekend and holiday to have that time back.
